Flat Vs. Pitched Roof: Which Is Right For You?
We all need somewhere to call home. Of course, as people evolved, so did their definition of “home.” Whereas a hole in the side of a mountain used to be enough to call Home Sweet Home, nowadays, we have slightly higher standards for our domiciles.
And among these standards, one element that comes up is our roofs. And why not? After all, our roofs provide an important job: keeping us dry.
Of course, as our domicile expectations became more sophisticated, so, too, did our roofing needs. We no longer need just the top of a cave or maybe some leaves to keep the rain off our heads.
Now we need a roof that adheres to a variety of different wants and needs. And among these roof types are the two major KINDS of roofs: pitched and flat.
But is it that really important? It’s just the difference between an angle: Aside from aesthetics, are pitched and flat roofing so distinct from one another to warrant any consideration when it comes to considering the beast roof for you?
Well, actually -- yes. For quite a few reasons. While neither a flat nor a pitched roof is more or less qualified to keep the rain off of your head than the other is, both options DO offer their own draws and drawBACKS -- depending on your needs.
Not sure what these pros and cons are? Not to worry! Technological advances have brought us not only more sophisticated roofing technology: They have also brought us blogs -- some of which can elucidate you to the differences between pitched and flat roofs!
PITCHED ROOFS
Think of when you were a kid and you drew a house. What did it look like? In most cases, the answer would be a square with a triangle atop it.
That triangle it a pitched roof, and triangles -- or pitched roofs -- were so commonplace among youthful domicile doodles because PITCHED ROOFS are also so commonplace.
And they are so commonplace because they are so USEFUL. And just what do we mean by “useful”?
Well, we mean they help to protect you against the damages that rain can cause!
After all, perhaps more than anything, rain will seek to damage your roof and, by extension, your home. And this damage can quickly become serious and -- of COURSE -- COSTLY!
With a pitched roof, though, you can combat the rain and its damages. After all, a pitched roof is -- well -- PITCHED . . . as in sloped . . . as in, it causes rain to simply fall off of it harmlessly.
If your idea of the perfect roof is one that keeps you and yours protected from the wettest damages that Mother Nature can throw at you, then you can’t go wrong with a pitched roof!
FLAT ROOFS
Of course, if your idea of the perfect roof is one that is as inexpensive as possible, then you CAN go wrong with a pitched roof -- since you could have picked a flat roof instead.
With its materials that are among the most affordable on the market, a flat roof certainly WON’T break your bank account as you strive to keep yourself and your kin safe and dry.
And with its design -- that is, a FLAT one -- a flat roof will prove to be easier to install than any other kind of roof out there. After all, since it is rather easy to traverse, the process of installing a flat roof will be quite quick, thus saving you money on labor.
On top of that, since flat roofs aren’t quite as easy to fall off of as pitched roofs are, the insurance requirements for a flat roof aren’t quite as taxing as they are for pitched roofs -- another means of saving you money during installation!
Are flat roofs the best when it comes to keeping the rain out? Not all the time. But we don’t always have the money it takes to get a pitched roof. And for those of us in that kind of situation, a flat roof will prove to be a solid, affordable option indeed!
